The Asia Pacific Glamping Experience of the Month
The Asia Pacific Glamping Experience of the Month
August 2026

Each month the Asia Pacific Outdoor Lodging Association prepares for editors a glamping experience in the region that encourages guests to immerse themselves in nature while supporting local culture and the surrounding community.

Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape, Bali

What is the experience?
Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape is an adults-only, open-air sanctuary where there are literally no walls, no doors, and essentially no barriers between guests and nature. Surrounded by rainforest and seven mountain peaks, the location offers an opportunity for guests to reconnect with themselves through wellbeing, local culture, and attentive hospitality.

Where is it?
In the highlands of Payangan, just north of Ubud in central Bali, Indonesia.

How to get there?
It is approximately 90 minutes by car from Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar). Private airport transfers can be arranged.

Who is it for?
For travellers seeking a deeper connection—with nature, with one another, and with themselves.

What are the three things I must do there?
Begin with the Soul Freedom Journey, a personal ritual inspired by Balinese philosophy. Join Jungle Cooking at Dukuh Asri Regenerative Centre, where guests harvest seasonal ingredients and prepare a farm-to-table meal alongside the local community. End the day with the Moon Meditation and Fire Ritual beneath the stars surrounded by the soothing sounds of forest.

What should I eat there?
Timbungan, Buahan’s unique signature lunch celebrating Bali's communal megibung tradition. Savour freshly caught fish slow-cooked in bamboo over charcoal, succulent pork skewers with sambal plecing, crispy free-range duck, nutritious garden vegetables and seasonal Balinese accompaniments. Finish on a refreshing note with coconut dessert es kuud Bali.

How responsible and sustainable are glamping operations there?
From open-air architecture designed to work with nature, to regenerative farming, and conservation initiatives, every aspect of the experience is guided by the belief that luxury and environmental responsibility coexist.

Does the local community benefit from my stay?
Yes. Buahan works closely with neighbouring farmers, artisans, producers, and community members, ensuring tourism directly supports local livelihoods while preserving Bali's traditions.

Is there a special offer I can use for my visit?
The Banyan Tree Connections package is designed for guests seeking quality time together, combining accommodation with wellbeing experiences, dining, and meaningful connections.

What are booking and stay periods?
Offers are available throughout the year, subject to availability. Current rates, inclusions, and seasonal offers can be found on the Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape website.
